Unilin Close-R fully insulated cavity closers are a high performance solution for builders and specifiers for closing cavities around window and door openings, helping to reduce cold bridging, damp penetration, air infiltration and condensation.

The Close-R range is used to close cavities around window and door openings and is suited to most window and door applications.

It is available in sizes to suit cavity widths from 100mm – 150mm, with checked detail for brick or drylined specifications and flanged detail for block outer leaf applications (flanged detailing requires precise construction tolerances).

Building Regulations:

The recently revised Part L of Irish Building Regulations places great emphasis on thermal bridging and detailing at junctions, recognising the need to improve junction performance as wall U-values improve.

Targets for junction thermal performance are outlined in BRE Paper IP1/06, with a recommended psi-value target of 0.05 W/mK.

In the past, where typical wall U-values were between 0.37 and 0.27 W/m²K, the 0.05 target was easily achieved using traditional 25mm insulation strips at reveals. However, with higher performance ‘A or B rated’ wall U-values, junctions can fail to meet IP1/06 requirements.

Unilin Close-R has been independently tested and achieves very low psi-values (down to 0.001–0.005 depending on build-up), helping to support compliance with Part L junction performance requirements.

Installation Information:
  • If precise fitting of windows cannot be guaranteed, a checked reveal using a vertical DPC should be used
  • Any jointing of Close-R should be positioned within 150mm of the opening head
  • Close-R should extend 50mm past the sill closer
  • Where sills are horned into the facing outer leaf, trim around the concrete sill and extend 50mm into the cavity
  • Horizontal DPCs should be used with the sill as normal, with a lining of 40mm PIR insulation placed at the back of the concrete sill
